Important facts and tips
Every year, the October 19 celebrates World Breast Cancer Day as a reminder of the commitment of the entire society in the fight against breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common tumor in western women, specifically in Spain about 33,307 new breast cancers are diagnosed annually. Therefore, this day seeks to raise awareness of the society of the importance of research and early diagnosis of this disease. In addition to participating in actions to help, we must reduce the risk of cancer. Here are some beneficial tips!
- • Practice exercise for at least 30 minutes daily.
- • Eat a balanced diet high in fiber, including broccoli, chard, spinach, mushrooms, grapes and papaya.
- • Decrease the consumption of sugars and fats.
- • Maintain an adequate weight.
- • Avoid tobacco and alcohol.
- • Perform a self-examination monthly breast, from the age of 20, preferably on the fifth day of menstruation. Women who already have menopause should set a day a month.
Next we will explain step by step how a breast self-examination should be done:
STEP 1: Look for redness, lumps or subsidence in your breasts.
STEP 2: Check that both breasts are on the same level.
STEP 3: Repeat this operation with your arms up.
STEP 4: Palpate with 3 fingers both breasts in a circular way.
STEP 5: Repeat the previous steps but now lying down.
STEP 6: Take the nipple and press to check that no liquid comes out.
